The Bull
I have arranged to meet up my mates for the first time in Islington; we normally go either to London Bridge area or Covent Garden, so as local, I wanted to take them to a very nice place. It would be more than a month since last we saw each other, even though I spent a week and a half in Uriel’s place when I got the pox.
Anyway, Uriel and I wandered around looking for the right place to enjoy the sunny afternoon once we meet; we walked along the Islington canal and then headed towards Upper Street, because my first choice looked a bit too upmarket for us, the Frederick’s on the Camden Passage.
As expected all the pubs where crowded, the Garden, my second choice was too far from the tube station where Camilo was to turn up and we ended up in the Bull. It was my first time there but for sure not the last one, the ambience was cool, you'll find trendy and young people and on top of everything a very sexy barmaid. I had a few Staropramens, we shared the chilli con carne and some chips at reasonable prices, and although it was a bit loud, I reckon it’s better than other places on Upper Street.
Our conversation was focused on the controversial ‘quality of living’ –which is the topic of a Camilo’s essay for the Uni- and how objectively measure it. Although we all understand that this subject is quite subjective and differs from country to country…, perhaps in the Western countries the best approach would be by taking into account Maslow’s pyramid of needs or to be more precise by using indicators such as PPP, not even the GDP. Obviously, we didn’t come to any agreement…
